چکیده

Neither n-ornithine nor n-citrulline has yet been described.’ A preparation of n-arginine by the action of arginase on racemic arginine was reported by Riesser in 1906 (2). For the ready preparation of these isomers, it was considered simplest to resolve DL-ornithine and to synthesize n-citrulline and n-arginine from n-ornithine by available procedures. The resolution of racemic ornithine was essentially that followed in the case of lysine (3).2

Stereo-Specific Transcript Regulation of the Polyamine Biosynthesis Genes by Enantiomers of Ornithine in Tobacco Cell Culture

Background: Ornithine (Orn) plays an essential role in the metabolism of plant cells through incorporation in polyamines biosynthesis, the urea cycle and nitrogen metabolism. Physiological response of the plant cells to its two enantiomers have not been widely investigated yet. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate effect of ornithine enantiomers on exp...

Arginine metabolism in Halobacterium salinarium, an obligately halophilic bacterium.

Dundas, Ian E. D. (University of Illinois, Urbana), and H. Orin Halvorson. Arginine metabolism in Halobacterium salinarium, an obligately halophilic bacterium. J. Bacteriol. 91:113-119. 1966.-Arginine was shown to be essential for growth of Halobacterium salinarium strain 1 in a chemically defined medium. Citrulline was the only compound which could substitute for arginine without affecting gro...

Inhibition of arginyl-transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase activity of Escherichia coli by arginine biosynthetic precursors.

The arginine biosynthetic precursors, ornithine, citrulline, and argininosuccinate, inhibit arginyl-transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) synthetase (EC 6.1.1.13, arginine: soluble RNA ligase, adenosine monophosphate) activity in the in vitro attachment assay system. Ornithine is the most potent, argininosuccinate is next, and citrulline is least effective. The implications of these results are disc...

Effects of exogenous ornithine enantiomers on tobacco cells under salinity conditions

Ornithine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, which plays an essential role in the metabolism of plants. Regard to the chirality of the molecule, physiological response of the plant cells to its two enantiomers have not been widely investigated yet. In the present study, suspension-cultured tobacco cells were treated with 1 mM of D- and Lenantiomers of ornithine in normal conditions as well as u...

Arginine catabolism in lactating porcine mammary tissue.

In vivo studies have shown that the uptake of plasma arginine by the lactating porcine mammary gland greatly exceeds the output of arginine in milk, but little is known about the metabolic fate of arginine in this organ. The objective of this study was to quantify arginine catabolism via arginase and nitric oxide synthase pathways in the mammary tissue of sows on d 28 of lactation. Mammary tiss...
